Tamaqua Police and Tamaqua Fire Department worked extremely fast to stop a truck fire this evening (Tuesday, January 27, 2015) on Pitt Street in Tamaqua.
Emergency personnel were called around 6 PM to Pitt Street at the intersection of Brown Street for a report of a fully involved vehicle fire endangering a structure.

A witness said Tamaqua Police officer Mike Hobbs, who is also a firefighter with Citizen’s Fire Company, was one of the first on scene. Hobbs used a fire extinguisher in the driver’s side heater compartment of the vehicle to stop the fire. Firefighters arrived and finished extinguishing the fire.
The vehicle was a green and gray Dodge pickup truck.
Responding were Citizen’s Fire Company, South Ward Fire Company and Tamaqua Ambulance.
Tamaqua Fire Police volunteers controlled traffic around the area for the duration.
No injuries or serious damage was observed.
