The Tamaqua Diner, a longtime landmark in Tamaqua, is closing its doors this Sunday. Employees confirmed rumors this afternoon. The diner will remain open until Sunday at 2 p.m.
Prior to Tamaqua Diner, the location was known as JB’s Diner and Taylor’s Diner.
The eatery, located at 39 South Center Street, was purchased from Judith Barnisky (who owned the diner since October 14, 1986) for $168,000 on April 2, 1996 by Christos Vasilios and Argiros Vasilios. The property has gone through major renovations since.
In addition, on January 31, 2006, the Vasilios purchased the connected property, once a gas station, for $135,000. The add-on property was reconstructed to add more seating to the diner.
