Bomb Squad Destroys Device, 200 block of West Abbott Street, Tamaqua, 11-7-2015 (14)

At around 8:45 PM tonight, members of the Allentown Fire Department Bomb Squad detonated a homemade explosive device at a home on the 200 block of West Abbott Street in Lansford.
Area residents could here officials yell “fire in hole” three times prior to the loud bang.
Police, firefighters and other emergency responders have been in the area since around 4 PM today.
Neighbors and area residents are told to stay inside during the incident.
Carbon County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) is working in conjunction with ATF, FBI and Lansford Police during the investigation. Lansford firefighters are also staged at the scene.
A robot was used to remove the device from the home. A vehicle was also removed from the driveway of the home.
Lansford Police, Summit Hill Fire Police, and Lansford Fire Police are preventing vehicle and pedestrian traffic from the area.
Officials are asking people to stay away from the area until the scene is clear.
Volunteers with the Lehigh & Lausanne Volunteer Fire Company Rehab Unit and Tamaqua Salvation Army are on scene offering assistance to emergency crews.
As of 10:30 PM, most emergency personnel and officials have left the scene.
Kevin Steber, Deputy Incident Coordinator, Carbon County EMA, stated that one occupant of 226 West Abbott Street found a homemade explosive device in the home, which resulted in the emergency response.
Steber added that the device was destroyed by the bomb squad and their is no danger to the public.
As of tonight, no one was arrested in relation to the incident.
The ATF (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives) is handling the investigation.
Lansford Mayor James Romankow said on Facebook, “Around the 200 block of West Abbott a pipe bomb was found. Bomb squad from Allentown and the ATF are on scene. Please stay clear off the area.”
