Overturned Tractor Trailer, SR54, Hometown, 10-19-2015 (33)Emergency personnel were dispatched around noon today (Monday, October 19, 2015) to SR54 just west of the SR309 intersection in Hometown for a report of an overturned tractor-trailer hauling residual waste. Some of the trailer’s load was spilled on the roadway and onto the lawn of McDonald’s restaurant.
The trailer belonged to J.P. Mascaro & Sons of Allentown.
It took about dozen workers with heavy equipment and tow trucks from Hope’s Towing about 5 hours to remove the trash, upright the truck/trailer and clear the scene.
Also responding were Rush Township Police, Hometown Fire Company, Hometown Fire Police, Tamaqua Fire Police and Quakake Fire Police.
Tamaqua Rescue was dispatched but later canceled.
No injuries were reported.
Two very large foam blocks were observed removed from the bottom of the load. An official on scene stated that the two foam blocks might have contributed to the incident.
Rush Township Police investigated.
The road was reopened shortly after 5 PM today. Video:
