As of 4:30 AM today (Saturday, April 25, 2015), firefighters were still on scene of a large house fire in West Penn Township. Emergency personnel were called at 10:49 PM last night to 365 Mush Dahl Road at the intersection with West Penn Pike (SR309) for a working structure fire. Firefighters arrived to see the majority of the home fully engulfed in flames.
In addition to numerous fire companies, a tanker taskforce of about 8 tanker trucks was used to bring water to the fire. Water refill sites were located at various locations. Tamaqua Fire Department’s ladder truck was also used to battle the fire.
A neighbor said he thought the home was for sale and stated he didn’t known if it was occupied.
There was power to the home, as PPL also responded to turn off the power.
Responding were firefighters and trucks from West Penn Fire Company, Tamaqua’s ladder truck, Walker/New England Fire Company, Tamaqua’s Citizen’s Fire Company, Tamaqua’s East End Fire Company, Community Fire Company of New Ringgold, Germansville Fire Company, Quakake Fire Company, New Tripoli Fire Company, Middleboro Fire Company, Mahoning Valley Fire Company and others. Also responding were West Penn Township Police, Tamaqua Ambulance and others.
West Penn and Tamaqua Fire Police volunteers closed both lanes of State Route 309 and detoured traffic for the duration.
Firefighters added that the same property was the location of two other fires in past years, to include a house fire and a large barn fire.
During the fire, a member with the Tamaqua Volunteers group purchased and delivered hot coffee, hot chocolate, iced tea, lemonade, crackers and waters to the responders on scene. The individual stated his appreciation to Turkey Hill in Tamaqua for donating all the coffee for the firefighters, without hesitation.
According to Schuylkill County Parcel Locator, the property is owned by Hanna Monif.
